HEY! I made four drawings last night in an hour, and I actually scanned them in. The scans are not that great. I need to ask my buddy to help me with this nice website, I have realized. Anyway, THEY ARE CHEAP. Buy them! Here is one; it's called, "My Hat!"

6.25.08

Greetings. It has been a minute or ten since I've posted any news because THERE HAS BEEN VERY LITTLE PAINTING-RELATED NEWS. I have confirmed a new show at the DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY in Anacortes, WA, but that's not until April, 2009. So, you will forget about it between now and then. That's okay, I will remind you. Another Seattle show or two is/are in the works; hopefully I will be bothering everyone about it/them before too long; I am in a new environ which is super exciting, and I am super amped to MAKE A LOT OF STUFF. Do you have something you want me to paint? I NEED THE MONEY! I AM SERIOUS! Everyone who has commissions I am working on: they will be done very soon, pinky swear. Maybe you can paint something nice for yourself in the meantime; it's what Bob would've wanted.

WOW, the $5 painting idea is a hit! I have eleven orders. I know now that there are at least eight strangers who look at my website! THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO ORDERED. I will get those paintings right out to you. The $5 painting offer is now over! Also, to those of you who bought pieces at the HOUSE OF SONG show, I am scanning those in tomorrow and they will be ready for pickup at the Anne Bonny this Friday. I made a new flyer for the Medicine Park show on May 16th; please come if you are in the Greater Chicagoland Area. REQUEST: ARE YOU A NICE PERSON WHO HAS A QUOTE UNQUOTE ART SPACE IN NYC/BROOKLYN/NEWBRIDGE? I AM LOOKING TO GET A SMALL GROUP SHOW TOGETHER IN FALL 2008, AND AM SEEKING A VENUE FOR IT. WE'LL MAKE IT FUN AND PROMOTE IT, PROMISE. PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. MY EMAIL IS JOAN AT RIOTACTMEDIA DOT COM.

I will make you a $5 painting of whatever you want. The painting will be about five inches tall, and on paper, and I will not spend much time on it. What do you want? E-mail me and let me know. Thank you.

Well, hot damn, I've put some new stuff up on the site, finally. Thanks to everyone who came to the HOUSE OF SONG show; it closes this week, so you still can probably go and buy some things at the Anne Bonny (please probably go and buy some things at the Anne Bonny, even if those things aren't the illustrations.) For those friends in Germany, visit www.mistiwilson.com for information on the "KICK-ASS KUNST UNDER 100" show that I was lucky enough to have been asked to be a part of. Her site explains the exhibition thusly: "This group exhibition of American, German and Italian artists consists of a wide range of contemporary artwork from fiber, painting, encaustic and sculpture to cement and more. The artists range from emerging to mid-career. All of the artwork is priced below 100 Euros." It is fair to say that I am of the "emerging" category. I am not sure what I'm emerging from, or into, either. It's in Koln, Germany, at the Gemeinschaftausttelung, Freitag, Eigelstein Torburg, 50668. Two euros to get in, and it's from 19:00 to 23:00 on April 11th. It appears also that Pilsner Urquell is sponsoring it, so maybe there will be beer?

HELLO! Please come to the Anne Bonny (1355 E Olive Way, Seattle, WA 98122) on Thursday, March 20th for the opening reception for HOUSE OF SONG: a tale of triumph, tragedy and tunes by Aja Pecknold, illustrated by me. Damien Jurado and J. Tillman will play, and we'll also have peanut butter sandwiches with the crusts cut off, ants on a log, goldfish and other kids' items. Because it's a children's story. But there probably won't be any kids at the opening. Or maybe there will. 7 PM. Runs through March 31st. Look! Birds.

More info soon about my show in Koln, Germany--it's on April 11th and is going to be held at Eigelstien Torburg (www.eigelsteintorburg.de), which is a super old place in the city--there has apparently never been an art show there, and the lady who is putting it on is bringing in a mirrored wall from a dance studio (complete with barre) and lots of old doors , because you can't hang the work on the walls themselves. Apparently, 400 people will be there, and everything in the show (there are 15 artists total) is under $100. OKAY, I AM GOING TO AUSTIN FOR SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST NOW BECAUSE I AM A PUBLICIST. Bye bye!

2.24.08.

Thanks again to everyone who came to my show at the beginning of the month--it was a bucketful of fun. Next month, less than a handful of weeks from now, please make sure to come to myself and Aja Pecknold's HOUSE OF SONG opening at the Anne Bonny. I will give you more details, like a date and time (I believe it's the third week of the month) soon. I will also have an exact date soon for my upcoming May '08 show at Medicine Park Gallery in Chicago, IL---that show will also feature installations and a performance, which maybe I will even take part in, from the best thing since Jan Terri, MINDofMUSIC:

Also, NYC's Gill Bumby (http://www.timeout.com/newyork/articles/out-there/24686/vanity-fair) will be at the opening giving Fair and Honest Appraisals of Peoples' Appearances. Maybe I think Derek Erdman will also have paintings; I may try and see if Rap Master Maurice can make raps, too. (http://derekerdman.com/ilovemilkshakes/january2008/besides_i_love_you/rmm/more_rapzzz.htm) But I haven't talked to Maurice about this idea yet. Also! Mountain Goats, and Wurster. WOW. Also, if you are going to be in LA from 2/27 to 3/1, e-mail me. Also, if you are going to be in NYC from 3/2 to 3/7, e-mail me. Also, if you are going to be in Austin from 3/13 to 3/17, e-mail me. ALSO, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO SEE me DJ at Kris K's Neumos Downstairs Bar Blowout this past week.

1.28.08.

HELLO THERE! Very soon, I will have jpegs of my new paintings up in the PAINTINGS page; they will all be for sale. Also, as of today, I ACCEPT PAYPAL. There's not a button one can directly click on via the site yet, but e-mail me, and I'll send you a PAYPAL INVOICE. I will only do this if you have purchased something; do to so otherwise would be unfair and slightly ridiculous of me, not to mention presumptuous. AGAIN, TWO WEEKS, OPENING AT SOLO BAR AT 200 E ROY IN SEATTLE--THE NIGHT IS FEBRUARY 8th, THE TIME IS 8 PM, and I WILL DJ. Here is the flyer; share it with your friends.

1.12.08 * NEW SHOWS IN SEATTLE! *

Wow! I sure do need to write more news more often. HELLO! HAPPY 2008 TO YOU! I almost died in a C-150 plane crash over New Year's, so I have a new lease on life. There was a winner to the contest and it was Derek Erdman, probably because he is one of the only people who looks on my website! OHOHOHO. He said, " I want a painting of The Hamburgler on Stephen Hawking's shoulders playing volleyball. You don't have to show the whole volleyball game, just that Hamburgler is about to hit the ball and there is some of the net." I am still working on this painting, and will post it as soon as I am done with it. OH! ALSO, I am making a number of new works that are large and on wood and are mostly of people including a baby with a cleft lip and Sir Edmund Hillary and a fancy lady in a huge fur-lined coat and they are for THE SHOW I AM HAVING AT SOLO ON QUEEN ANNE IN SEATTLE; THE SHOW OPENS ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST, WHICH IS IN A COUPLE FEW WEEKS. Opening night, I will DJ, which will keep me occupied so that I am not "mingling", which is weird when it's your own art opening because then you never know whether people are being nice to you just because or because they really mean it. ALSO, THE SECOND WEEK OF MARCH, MYSELF and the lovely and enigmatic MS. AJA PECKNOLD are OPENING A SHOW AT THE ANNE BONNEY ON CAPITOL HILL called 'HOUSE OF SONG'. Aja has written a tremendously moving children's story of that same name, which I am illustrating. The illustrations will be up for purchase, and Aja will read the story, and we are going to have kids' snacks like peanut butter sandwiches with the crusts cut off, ants on a log, juice boxes, goldfish and any other child's snack that you can think of and e-mail me about. I believe also that we may bring fruit roll-ups. There will be booze, too. I will post more details when we get the specific opening date from Dr. Spencer Moody. I was also supposed to have a show this spring in NYC, but I do not know what the fuck is up with that one. OH WELL. IT WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY. New contest: if you know of a brand of sardines that is delicious, where the sardines are the small ones, not the big ones, and if you e-mail this brand to me and I can find and purchase it and I believe it to be delicious, I will paint you a small painting of a sardine, free, and mail it to you. I am looking for good sardines. Lance told me that Beach Cliff sardines were good, but they were big and oily and it turns out that I didn't like them. BYE BYE NOW.

12.06.07

I am having a contest. It starts right now, 5:16 PM PST. You will e-mail me with the most completely, wholly, fully ridiculous idea for a painting that you can think of, and you hope that nobody else comes up with a crazier idea than you, because if you are the person with the worst idea, you will win, and the prize is that I will paint that painting for you and send it to you for free. It will be a small painting, because obviously you probably won't want a giant painting of your worst idea for a painting in your house, because it is your worst idea. OKAY, GO!

11.16.07

Hello! Much has happened. I have put up some pictures in the DRAWINGS and PAINTINGS pages, but they are not enough; I am still learning how to make this website functionable and okay to look at, so I bet it will change about a million more times before it is so nice that I stick to it. Do you see all of the weird places where spacing is off or images are funny? I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I am going to ask, though. Ask and learn, they say. Speaking of learning, today is National Walk Out Day for high school kids, I just realized it. I have been seeing flyers for it everywhere, and heard a muffled "What do we want?" "BFFORRRGGLLL". "When do we want it?" "NOW!" coming from outside our building, and, lo and behold, the fancy Seattle Academy High School across the street had a big parade in front of it made up of about 75 richish art school kids, fighting the good fight for whatever they were fighting for. Also this week, I made fried chicken dredged in mayonnaise and crushed rice crackers with crushed crispy chow mein noodles; you know the kind. E-mail me for the recipe; it did not work too well but it was delicious. WOW, I go to New York next week and will see friends; I will post photos of New York later.
